Ontario's 1.5M-homes promise meets reality
Three years into the 2031 target, Ontario has delivered 15.3 % of the homes against 33 % of the timeline. Catching up to 1.5 M would now require 211,792 starts a year — 3.2 × the 2025 rate.
In 1981, 27% of young adults in Canada lived with their parents. The latest housing survey puts it at 55%.
Census data show the share climbing to 42% by 2011. Statistics Canada's 2024 housing survey puts it at 55%, up from 51% in 2022, about 3.5 million people.

Statistics Canada says asking rents fell over the past year. It also says rents rose almost four per cent. Both are correct. One number prices the apartment you would move into, the other the one you already live in, and the difference explains most of the confusion.
